.. Flood Watch in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a* Flood Watch for a portion of southeast Missouri... includingthe following areas... in southeast Missouri... Butler... Carterand Wayne MO.* Through this evening* the Upper Reservoir at the taum Sauk Power Plant failed... andflooding was reported on the Black River upstream in ReynoldsCounty Missouri.

It has been reported that the LowerReservoir... also upstream in Reynolds County Missouri... has beentopped but is still holding.* The release of water and flow downstream from the abridged levee issuch that it will cause a rise in Clearwater to near but notover critical levels. However even if both upstream reservoirsbroke... the maximum rise at Clearwater Lake would be about 6feet. If this resulted in any damage to the Clearwaterdam... then higher flood waters would affect points downstreamthe Black River from Clearwater.

The National Weather Service will continue to closely monitordownstream water levels and will upgrade to the appropriatewarning if any unanticipated breeches or higher than forecastwater levels occur.A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based oncurrent forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible floodwarnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should beprepared to take action should flooding develop.
