How the US Senate looked from 1914-2004 Video

This video will show you each election cycle for the United States Senate by state since the 17th Amendment was ratified allowing for the direct election of Senators.

Several things to note..... the deep south has changed A LOT in 90 years (politically), the 1930's weren't so good for the Republicans. How would you like a 75-17 plurality (like in 1936 for the Dems)?

Another curiosity, Pennysylvania only had 1 sitting Senator from 1926 to 1929 because of a scandal involving Senator elect William S Vare during his 1926 election and the refusal of then Governor Pinchot to certify him LINK

Be certain to pump up the volume as there is music included. The entire length is about 4 minutes and I hope you enjoy it, I find it informative.

Emerging victorious, Kennedy remains notorious.

Coretta Scott King 1927-2006

"Coretta Scott King, who turned a life shattered by her husband's assassination into one devoted to enshrining his legacy of human rights and equality, has died, former mayor Andrew Young told NBC Tuesday morning. She was 78.

Young, who was a former civil rights activist and was close to the King family, broke the news during a phone call he made to the "Today" show. "I was not expecting it. She has been ill for last few months. My first reaction was she was ready to cross on over."

RIP Dear One

May we all desire to live such a life.

I want to hear more about the "new tone" tonight from President Bush

Tonight's state of the union should no doubt focus on how President Bush intends to "reach out" and "unite" this country. More of the "new tone" should be the message of tonight's State of the Union address. Could there be any doubt that it has certainly worked thus far, President Bush has been treated with the utmost of decorum.

Michelle Malkin asks the question... STATE OF THE UNION: DO-IT-YOURSELF

Bush family member Bill Clinton urges "dialogue" with Hamas

These 2 stories blow my mind....

1st... Clinton urges Dialogue with Hamas

"Ex-president Bill Clinton is urging the U.S. to establish a dialogue with Hamas in the wake of its upset victory in last week's Palestinian parliamentary elections, saying it would be wrong to cut off contact with the terror group just because they may have killed people "in a way that we hate."
"He also argued that Palestinians who voted for Hamas weren't necessarily endorsing the terror group's aims."

Even more shocking is the 2nd story..Bill Clinton member of Bush Family

"President Bush said Sunday that ex-President Bill Clinton has worked so closely with his father on tsunami and Hurricane Katrina relief that he's like a member of the Bush family.

Referring to Clinton as "my new brother," Bush told CBS's "Face the Nation" that it was "fun" to watch his two predecessors interact when they all attended the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

When Schieffer reminded the president that Sen. Hillary Clinton was planning to succeed him, Bush interjected: "Yeah. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton." NO!!!!!!

Is he (Bush) out of his mind???? Glad to see such brother love shown by the Clintons. Gag!

Question... Clinton espouses the same things as Carter and backstabs just like Carter, yet the Bushes ignore Carter. Why ignore Carter when you LOVE Clinton? Look we should love our enemies, but don't expect them to help you politically (sometimes the Bushes are rather tone deaf politically to say the least).

The bottom line... the "new tone" has not worked. But in the end... it is the right thing to do. God help me to be more loving and speak good of those who speak ill of me.

"'They are the greatest women in the world. Really," Imad Dalau said on Tuesday, a day after returning home to Gaza with his wife and their youngest child, a baby boy named Mustafa. Mustafa had just spent his first night at home after his birth six weeks ago at Hadassah-University Hospital in Ein Kerem, where he'd undergone emergency surgery just days after being delivered to fix a "complex heart anomaly" that could have ended his young life not long after he was born. When Chafee met Alito (and Alito needs a little more time to decide)

From John J Miller at The Corner

"If you walk by the Senate's Russell Building tonight, you're bound to see a light in one of the windows, into the wee hours of the morning. It will emanate from Lincoln Chafee's office. The senator is pulling an all-nighter, continuing to review the transcripts to those Alito confirmation hearings. He's going to make a decision soon on whether to support or oppose the nomination. He just needs a little more time."

Today the hearings begin for Judge Alito, soon he will be thrown into the Lion's den. Hamasistan to be isolated (via self-initiative)

The victory of Hamas indicates to this observer, more of the same just less secular and more verbally incendiary. Hey they want the same thing as Abbas, just with a touch of stonings and forced hejab.

"President Bush yesterday said the U.S. will not deal with Hamas, the terrorist group that won Wednesday's Palestinian elections, unless it renounces its goal of destroying Israel. "A political party that articulates the destruction of Israel as part of its platform is a party with which we will not deal," the president said in a press conference. "People must renounce that part of their platform."

"Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar has proposed a dramatic shift of Palestinian policy -- ending security cooperation with Israel, cutting most trade links with the Jewish state and refusing to engage with the "Christian-Zionist" U.S. administration.

"We have to go away from Israel and move toward all possible linkages with our Arab and Islamic brothers,"

Bush administration opposes Mexico Mapping program (for reconquista)

"The Bush administration yesterday accused the Mexican government of facilitating illegal entry into the United States after Mexican officials said they would distribute maps of dangerous border areas and posters with safety instructions and other tips.

"We oppose in the strongest terms the publication of maps to aid those who wish to enter the United States illegally," said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. "It is a bad idea to encourage migrants to undertake this highly dangerous and ultimately futile effort. "

How is it a "futile" effort? Guaranteed jobs, welfare, etc and no deportation. Sounds like to me it's a win-win (excepting the desert crossing). I can't take the Bush administration seriously regarding this matter, especially when it comes to "they do jobs no other Americans will do."

The only ivory-billed woodpecker Bill Eddleman saw during a two-week search for the rare bird was on souvenirs littering the gift shops in Arkansas. The Southeast Missouri State University biology professor even brought the bird home -- on a hat, T-shirt and a pair of earrings for his wife.
"It would have been nice to see it, but I wasn't really expecting to," said Eddleman, who recently returned home. Based on studies from the 1930s, the ivory-billed woodpecker is only able to survive in habitats such as the bottomland hardwood forests in southeast Arkansas.

From Washington Times Editorial, "In a Dec. 3 address to the Council on Foreign Relations, Mr. Kerry suggested that the Bush administration's unwillingness to bargain with Tehran is to blame for Iran's harboring of al Qaeda operatives. "It is incomprehensible and unacceptable that this administration refuses to broker an arrangement with Iran," Mr. Kerry declared."

Is this the same John Kerry who I now hear saber-rattling ?

Did you know John Kerry wrote an email to the hardline Tehran Times ?

"Tehran Times, Mehr News Agency, as well the newspapers in the United States reported that: "The office of Senator John Kerry, the frontrunner in the Democratic presidential primary in the U.S., sent the Mehr News Agency an E-mail saying that Kerry will try to repair the damage done by the incumbent president if he wins the election." And, includes your statement: "... America needs the kind of leadership that will repair alliances with countries on every continent that have been so damaged in the past few years, as well as build new friendships and overcome tensions with others." Adding further: "He believes that collaboration with other countries is crucial to efforts to win the war on terror and make America safer."

"Now that the results are out, we're going to start serious talks in Baghdad to form a national unity government based on these results," Alliance official Abbas al-Bayati said. "

So let's see how it works out there. Let us pray that there will be honest cooperation.

RNC backs Bush's indentured servitude/exploited labor program

Yes that's what I call it. I could go even further and say, what are we looking for "slaves"?

"The Republican National Committee voted yesterday to back President Bush's call for a "guest-worker program". "The president has made it very clear where he wants to go, and I think we as the Republican National Committee owe it to the president and Congress to come up with a resolution that is broad enough and states the principle we stand for, to allow the legislative process to work it out," he said. "

Remember, we need people who "will do jobs NO other Americans will do." Is anyone else insulted by that constant statement? Do we want bloody slaves? For crying out loud, how more insulting can you be. Is that all Indios de Mexico can do? I would hope not and I KNOW it is not. So, the truth is business wants cheap labor (that's why they pay people in Mexico like 5$ a day).

Hebrews 12:11
A Discouraging but non-suprising story about Hamas

"Hamas, the militant Islamic movement that Israel has failed to eradicate in the past five years of conflict, is poised to secure a decisive role in mainstream Palestinian politics after the votes are tallied in next week’s parliamentary elections.

Opinion polls that give a slender 5 to 10 per cent lead to the once all-powerful Fatah party predict that Hamas could win up to a third of seats in a new 132-seat legislature. That would be enough for it to demand portfolios in a coalition cabinet or to act as a blocking opposition to a Fatah-led government.

Analysts on both sides are already pondering the prospects of a movement ostensibly committed to the destruction of Israel playing a role in future negotiations with it."

AmerenUE makes cleanup plans

From the Park Hills Daily Journal, "AmerenUE plans to clean water in the Black River with a chemical used to remove solids from drinking water, pending Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) approval.
AmerenUE environmental group officials discussed the plan on Tuesday with U.S. Rep. JoAnn Emerson, R-Missouri, during a tour with Emerson, her Farmington aide and two reporters. The company's proposal, part of its efforts to reverse the damage from the Dec. 14 breach in the upper Taum Sauk reservoir, was to be submitted to the DNR late Tuesday."

“It's our responsibility to clean up the park and the river,” Menne (from AUE) said.
Reid apologizes for insulting 33 Republicans

Long time coming, I would say (the admittance of unethics, if that's a word).

From the Wash Times, "A day after he announced his campaign for clean government, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid had to apologize for a political document that his official office sent out slamming 33 Senate Republicans.

"I am writing to apologize for the tone of this document and the decision to single out individual senators for criticism in it," the Nevada Democrat wrote in a letter yesterday that said he regrets "the current political climate in which policy disputes escalate too quickly into personal condemnation."

Interesting that his "clean government" campaign requires an apology. Aye aye. More like repentance is what they need. Turn, national Democrats, turn away.

Hillary and Bill at the "Big House" of Democrat Ideas

Hillary wants to talk about Plantations? Well Clark Mountain Musings obliges... and I think shares a "bit" of truth about the Democratic party, that they are not entirely who they claim to be. Hey, its a bit of satire and yes... the house is supposed to be the Modern day Left/Democrat party. Easy enough?

Paul Hackett thinks Evangelical Christians are the Taliban

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, “Paul Hackett, the tough-talking Iraq war veteran seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Ohio, is refusing to back down from an assertion that ‘the Republican Party has been hijacked by the religious fanatics’ who ‘aren’t a whole lot different than Osama bin Laden.’ ” Hackett, a Cincinnati attorney, said, “ ‘I said it. I meant it. I stand behind it,’ in a statement issued by his campaign after Ohio GOP Chairman Bob Bennett demanded that Hackett apologize.”

I find it funny that the party who refuses to allow a stage appearance at their convention by a state governor Bob Casey who was Pro-Life and rails against African-Americans who stray from an ideological block (ie Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Ken Blackwell, Michael Steele etc) calls the Republican Party (party of Lincoln, not party of KKK Byrd) a "plantation". Is Hillary out of her mind. And whatever happened to MLK celebration day, all she did in this speech was complain about how the Dem Party is discriminated against. It is the worst performance by a terrible performer. And we (Conservative GOP) are scared of this woman, Hillary? Keep talking shrill one, keep talking.

And what is this.... "and you know what I'm talking about..."? Can you image, can you image if a Republican had pulled that off. In a Church no less. Such a great message, such HOPE.

CNN deeply sorry over correctly portraying Iran's nuclear ambitions

"American cable news chain CNN said it was "very disappointed" by being banned from Iran for having misquoted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad due to "an error in translation."

"There are reports today, Monday, that Iran has banned us from the country. CNN is very disappointed that this action has been taken," Nigel Pritchard, a spokesman for the company, said in a statement from Atlanta, where CNN is based.

"CNN apologized on all its platforms which included the translation error, including CNN International, CNNUSA and and also expressed its regrets to the Iranian Government and the Iranian ambassador to the UN," Pritchard said."

Glad to see CNN's true colors, they're more interested in "correctly" portraying the Iranian radical than our own President. Hah, CNN's banned, hahahaha.

EU "powers" "plan" action on Iran

From WashTimes, "European powers yesterday began drafting a resolution to have Iran referred to the U.N. Security Council next month over its contentious nuclear work, after Russia and the West neared agreement on strategy.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London said Britain, Germany and France would call for an emergency meeting of the U.N. nuclear watchdog's 35-nation Board of Governors in Vienna, Austria, on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3. A vote on sending Iran to the Security Council could be held then."

Yeah, they "plan" alright. I think its quite clear, we won't see any "action" by these "powers" until we're on the brink.

A Kansas-Missouri football game with a bowl trip on the line would spice up the Border War. Would a Missouri-Kansas game with an NCAA Tournament appearance on the line water down the basketball rivalry? Actually, the winner only slightly improves its postseason credentials, the Jayhawks and Tigers have that much ground to make up.

The New Underground Railroad

So the first underground railroad freed people from slavery and I guess the title of this story indicates that these women free other women from the "slavery" of pregnancy?

From this story "“Being pro-choice is a morality that takes you morally out of the picture.”
Most of the time, it feels good to have helped."

Thousands of women come to New York each year for late-term abortions. A hundred New Yorkers take them in. But 1 percent of abortions take place after 21 weeks, late into the second trimester, and many of these women must resort to making a pilgrimage to New York City. More late-term abortions are done here than anywhere else in the country.

Naked a man comes from his mother's womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.

Ecclesiastes 5:15
The Abortion Capital of America

From New York Magazine, "In 1970, New York passed the most permissive abortion law in America, one that defined the state as the country’s abortion refuge. Overnight, a new industry materialized in New York City, promoting itself to women across the country. The pitches were often blunt. A newspaper ad from the time inquired, “Want to be un-pregnant?”

Thirty-five years later, New York has the highest abortion rate in America. In 2000, the last year for which good data are available, 39 out of every 1,000 women in the state ended a pregnancy, for a total of 164,000 abortions that year. In America, one of every ten abortions occurs in New York, and in New York, seven of every ten abortions are performed in New York City. In parts of the city, the ratio of abortions to births is one to one."

The Taum Sauk Reservoir rupture displayed warning signs

This is really big, so read article at St Louis Post-Dispatch closely...

"A gush of water spilled over the northwest wall of the Taum Sauk reservoir in late September and led to warnings that more overflowing could lead to a collapse, according to an internal AmerenUE e-mail. Less than three months later, the reservoir ruptured in the same spot, releasing more than a billion gallons of water that surged through Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park.

Cooper’s e-mail, sent to several Ameren supervisors, said employees described the incident as “Niagara Falls.” “Overflowing the upper reservoir is obviously an absolute ‘NO-NO,’” Cooper’s e-mail said, noting that it would “cause eventual failure . . . Those kind of headlines we don’t need.”

Tough loss for the Mizzou Tigers to take

Last night we were in Columbia for the game with Colorado. Noise rained down from the stands unfortunately Colorado's threes did as well and they beat us on a last second shot. Those losses are tough to take especially when we could have started off 3-0 in Big 12.
