Majority Leader Charlie Shields faces challenge from Mason

Longtime St. Joseph school teacher and Democrat David Mason declared his candidacy Thursday for the state’s 34th Senate District, with improvements to education leading his platform.“I could no longer stand by in my classroom, or retire to Key West … while public education was threatened by policies that are designed to weaken or destroy it,” he said.

Mr. Mason faces one of the area’s most influential politicians — Sen. Charlie Shields, R-St. Joseph, who serves as Senate majority leader. In his opening remarks, Mr. Mason alluded to the difficulties he would face in his campaign.

You think there might be "difficulties"? Good luck.
