A fitting tribute to Don Knotts

"When Don Knotts was cast as Ralph Furley in Three's Company, he became the same character, but was portrayed as someone to avoid, to shun, to laugh at when he wasn't looking. The reality that Don Knotts still portrayed the average American was truth the Hollywood glitterati didn't want to face, and we went along with them. We still do to this day.

And now Barney is gone. The man we loved so much because in him we saw a glimpse of ourselves, but would never dare mention that to anyone. In him we saw the truth that one could like, admire and enjoy someone regardless of their flaws, simply because of who they were down deep."

Jihadi Turns Yale Bulldog

"Never has an article made me blink with astonishment as much as when I read in yesterday's New York Times magazine that Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi, former ambassador-at-large for the Taliban, is now studying at Yale on a U.S. student visa. This is taking the obsession that U.S. universities have with promoting diversity a bit too far."

That's right.... the former Taliban Ambassador is now Ivy League.....

Trailers reveal bleak life on the bayou

"Three white FEMA trailers sag in the mud. Nearby, a thick, brown pool of water, still heavily polluted by what the locals call "Katrina crud," twists through a landscape of mangled houses along the bayou. Jacquie and Henry Reynolds, both in their 60s, sit cramped among a pile of salvaged belongings crammed inside one of the trailers sited where their house used to be.

Nearly 100,000 of Mississippi's 2.3 million residents are living like this in about 35,500 temporary trailers provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to the American Red Cross, nearly 70,000 dwellings in the state were destroyed and another 65,000 heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina six months ago."

Christians under attack

"One aspect of the Muslim cartoon controversy that hasn’t received the press it deserves is the tremendous harm being done to Christians in Muslim countries.

From Gaza to Pakistan, Islamist mobs that can’t find Westerners upon which to vent their rage are turning on the nearest churches. Things have gotten so bad in Pakistan that the Catholic Bishops Conference there has asked the government to step in."

Chief rabbis to meet Anglican head

"Israel's two chief rabbis have questions for the Archbishop of Canterbury, but will not cancel plans to meet the leader of Britain's state church this May in light of the vote by the General Synod of the Church of England to divest its shares in companies whose products are used by the Israeli government in the territories.

Mizzou's Smith is sticking to his goal of playing QB

"There is talk of making Brad Smith the next Antwan Randle El or Matt Jones - college quarterbacks who became successful NFL wide receivers. But for now, Smith will have none of that. The University of Missouri star has come to the NFL scouting combine determined to prove his worth at quarterback.

So Smith, the only player in NCAA Division I history to throw for 8,000 yards and rush for 4,000 in his college career, is working out at quarterback - and quarterback only - this weekend at the combine."

South Dakota outlaws Abortions except for the life of the Mother

"South Dakota lawmakers approved a ban on nearly all abortions yesterday , setting up a deliberate frontal assault on Roe v. Wade at a time when some activists see the U.S. Supreme Court as more willing than ever to overturn the 33-year-old decision.

Many opponents and supporters of abortion rights think the U.S. Supreme Court is more likely to overturn its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion now that Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. are on the bench. Lawmakers said growing support among South Dakotans for abortion restrictions added momentum to the bill.

According to the Iranian Education Minister. Watch this video at MEMRITv... Some people want to be self-parodies I guess.

Not exactly the Cannes Film Festival. How do you deal with people who call Jewish people "dirty mice"???? And claim that "Tom and Jerry" is a "Zionist conspiracy". Might as well say that Limburger cheese is a "Zionist plot".

Vatican speaks out about Christian rights in Muslim nations

"After backing calls by Muslims for respect during the furor over cartoons of the prophet Muhammad, the Vatican is urging Muslim countries to reciprocate by showing tolerance toward their Christian minorities.

"Enough now with this turning the other cheek. It's our duty to protect ourselves," Monsignor Velasio De Paolis, secretary of the Vatican's supreme court, thundered in the daily La Stampa.

Vatican diplomats argue that limits on Christians in some Islamic countries are far harsher than restrictions in the West that Muslims decry, such as France's ban on head scarves in state schools. "

Homeland Security director had no idea of the Dubai-Port Deal

"Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff was not aware a Dubai-owned company was seeking to operate terminals in six U.S. ports and that his agency was leading the review until after the deal's approval, an administration official said yesterday.

Mr. Chertoff's spokesman, Russ Knocke, told The Washington Times the issue rose no higher than the department's assistant secretary for policy, Stewart Baker.

"[Chertoff] was not briefed up to this until after this story started appearing in the newspapers," Mr. Knocke said."

Hillary Clinton is one angry lady

See this video of the unhinged one speaking rather angrily about school vouchers at Michelle Malkin

"Next parent who comes says, 'I want to send my child to the school of the Church of the White Supremacist.' You say, 'Wait a minute. You can't send...we're not giving a voucher for that.' And the parent says, 'Well, the way that I read Genesis, Cain was marked, therefore I believe in white supremacy.

And therefore, you gave it to a Catholic parent, you gave it to a Jewish parent, gave it to a secular private parent. Under the Constitution, you can't discriminate against me.'
Suppose the next parent comes and says 'I want to send my child to the School of...the Jihad.' Wait a minute! We're not going to send a child with taxpayers dollars to the School of Jihad."

Considered an ally now, UAE once backed bin Laden

"The United Arab Emirates has become what the Bush administration calls a reliable partner in the war against Islamic terrorists, but its rulers maintained close ties to Osama bin Laden before September 11, and the cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai have since served as operations and financial bases for al Qaeda terrorists.

But the United Arab Emirates, the most Western of Persian Gulf nations, also has become the United States' closest military ally in the region. Its ruling emirs permit Navy warships to dock in the bustling commercial center of Dubai on lengthy liberty calls.

It also hosts U.S. Air Force warplanes, refueling jets and spy planes at the sprawling Al Dhafra air base near Abu Dhabi. The base sits across the gulf from U.S. adversary Iran."

Ameren Begins to Clear-Up Water After Taum Sauk Breach

Six weeks after the Taum Sauk Reservoir Breach sent more than one billion gallons of water cascading down Profitt Mountain, Ameren U.E. contractors began to clear up the murky mess.

The breach sent water from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir, and along the way, picked up clay, dirt and debris. That is what clouds the lower reservoir and the Black River.

The contractors used a boat, with metal arms stretching out both sides, to put a combination of alum and sodium aluminate into the water. They suspect the chemicals will cause the sediment to settle to the bottom of the reservoir, and eventually they plan to clean it up at a later date.

Other views on the UAE Port Deal

I understand the view of building allies and I appreciate the UAE's help in fighting terrorism. Politically this couldn't be a more bone-headed move. I just think that we need to be careful in where the control lies. The truth is, the Middle East is the home of radicalism and that cannot be avoided. It is amazing though to see the Democrats who are all for strip searching grandmothers prior to airline boarding, go the way of profiling.

Jimmy Carter aligns with Bush on Port Deal

"President Bush is taking a battering from fellow Republicans, even the governors of New York and Maryland, over the administration's support for a decision that gives an Arab company control of some commercial operations at six major seaports -- including Miami-Dade's.

But he got a boost Monday from an unlikely source, frequent critic and former president Jimmy Carter, who downplayed fears that the deal poses a risk."

President Bush to break out veto pen??? for port deal

"President Bush yesterday vowed to use his first-ever veto to strike any law that Congress passes to block a deal allowing an Arab state-owned company to operate six major U.S. seaports, amid growing bipartisan efforts to thwart the plan for security reasons.

"If there was any chance that this transaction would jeopardize the security of the United States, it would not go forward," the president said in a brief but firm statement on the White House South Lawn."

Let the heavens shake and split the sky
Let the people clap their hands and cry

Being Mocked: The Essence of Christ’s Work, Not Muhammad’s

"The caricature and mockery of Christ has continued to this day. Martin Scorsese portrayed Jesus in The Last Temptation of Christ as wracked with doubt and beset with sexual lust. Andres Serrano was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts to portray Jesus on a cross sunk in a bottle of urine. The Da Vinci Code portrays Jesus as a mere mortal who married and fathered children.

How should his followers respond?

On the one hand, we are grieved and angered. On the other hand, we identify with Christ, and embrace his suffering, and rejoice in our afflictions, and say with the apostle Paul that vengeance belongs to the Lord, let us love our enemies and win them with the gospel. If Christ did his work by being insulted, we must do ours likewise."

Mufti Gore... criticizes US "abuses" in Saudi Arabia...

Good thing he didn't try to pass out Bibles or go with his "preacher voice". What's next Al, you'll travel to the Sudan and criticize the US for having the slave institution in the past? Why not go to China and declare "The US does not allow political dissent". Oh yeah.. Algore... was this speech given from Mecca? Guess not, unless you've converted........the tolerance of Saudis is breathtaking

Oh yeah... Saudi Arabia, the home of Wahabism and Al Qaeda, the most intolerant form of Islam.

At least in Iran... there are Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Bahais, Hindus... the "Kingdom" has been given access to the Bush administration, so the Bushies are not without sin.

Al-Jaafari stays as prime minister

"Shi'ite lawmakers chose Ibrahim al-Jaafari to remain as prime minister in a new government yesterday, troubling critics who say his current administration has failed to deal effectively with the Sunni-led insurgency or rebuild the nation's crumbling infrastructure."

"A United Nations' inquiry will call for the immediate closure of the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the prosecution of officers and politicians "up to the highest level" who are accused of torturing detainees.

The U.N. Human Rights Commission report, to be published this week, concludes that Washington should put the 520 detainees on trial or release them."

Ann Coulter... TIME to go away

before you do anymore damage to the Conservative cause. We don't need skinny, blonde haired female Michael Moores representing us. Please be silent or go away.

I know this photo isn't nice... but darn it, she always portrays herself as some glamour girl or something. Have you EVER seen a longer neck?

More about this subject and why I'm posting.. at Michelle Malkin.

In case you didn't hear... Ann threw around "raghead", poisoning supreme court justices, and doing away with a president. Not nice Ann. And she received a standing ovation.......... SHAME!
Ann Coulter is a disgrace and an embarassment to the Conservative movement

At the CPAC Conference... she made the following remarks...

"She referred to Arabs by the epithet "ragheads" and joked about the poisoning of liberal Supreme Court justices, to top it off she joked about her “ethical dilemma” regarding whether or not to kill Bill Clinton when she had the chance.

"I think our motto should be post-9-11, 'raghead talks tough, raghead faces consequences.'"

3rd.... GO AWAY

4th... GO AWAY ANN

Is Anyone suprised? Ann is a self-absorbed fooless. She comes across as someone who believes SHE is THE Conservative Movement. The sad part... the CPAC audience gave her a standing ovation.. idolotry is blinding, I guess.

Iranian regime cracking down on Christian converts

"Sources with Open Doors say Iran's President dealt a severe blow to believers by outlawing Muslims who convert to Christianity.

The trend against believers has been toward persecution since 2004. In mid-2004, church leaders were arrested. Since 2005's election, many have not only been rounded up for harassment, but many have been arrested and beaten.

...the word is that mayors have been given the order to crack down on all Christian cell groups."

Just who runs this country and how do you "curse" a newspaper?

In Ohio, CAIR thinks Muslims do. Whatever happened to freedom of speech and expression? Read this from Michelle Malkin those who did. The Beacon Journal, he said, was in a class of its own.

``They take the prize for being the most ill-intended, irresponsible property group,'' he said. ``Allah curses and condemns them and every Muslim in this community should curse and condemn them.''

What exactly does that mean to "curse and condemn them".... Curse as in make them "apes and pigs" or some such thing. Since when did AMERICAN protesters "curse" people and what will happen to the newspaper group if they're "cursed". SHEESH...

"A company in the United Arab Emirates is poised to take over significant operations at six American ports as part of a corporate sale, leaving a country with ties to the September 11 hijackers with influence over a maritime industry considered vulnerable to terrorism.

The Bush administration considers the UAE an important ally in the fight against terrorism since the suicide hijackings and is not objecting to Dubai Ports World's purchase of London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co.

The $6.8 billion sale is expected to be approved tomorrow."

Talent’s Blunder:The senator gets cloning wrong

Ramesh Ponnuru writes:

"Senator Jim Talent of Missouri says that he wants to ban all forms of cloning, including cloning to produce human embryos for biomedical research. He also says he wants to promote an alternative type of research called Altered Nuclear Transfer (ANT). On Friday, he set back both goals.

Senator Talent took a different tack Friday. In a speech, he warned that the bill to ban human cloning, sponsored by Senators Sam Brownback and Mary Landrieu, was written overbroadly and could ban ANT. He withdrew his support for the bill, of which he had been a co-sponsor."

Woodpecker Making A Comeback

For more than 60 years, the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker was believed to be extinct — its Southern habitat had been all but completely logged, and even the earliest conservation efforts in the 1930s and ’40s came too late.

Then in February 2004, Gene Sparling claimed to have seen the reclusive swamp-dwelling bird while kayaking in Arkansas. A couple months after his sighting, two scientists confirmed it was true — the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker was still in existence.

“It almost never happens that something we think is extinct reappears,” said Mark Madison, a historian for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The words of two "Presidents".... Moderate or Radical?

Guess who this quote is from?... The "moderate, reformer" elected in 1997 by a vast plurality Mohammed Khatami or the "radical, hardliner" selected in 2005 by the hardliners of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ?.......

"In the Qur'an, God commanded to kill the wicked and those who do not see the rights of the oppressed… If we abide by human laws, we should mobilize the whole Islamic World for a sharp confrontation with the Zionist regime… If we abide by the Qur'an, all of use should mobilize to kill."

Hint.......he's available for booking from the Combatant Clerics Speaking Bureau. I know... Khatami was a smiling face behind conceited plans, charismatically hiding the regime to the world.

Oh yeah... check out this photo from the Pope's funeral... Assad and Khatami right next to Irael's President Moshe Katsav, they had their chance... cowards! In fact, they yucked it up with the President like decent people should, not want to kill them in one word, then be kind in the next word.

Fear or lack thereof breeds the tendency to mock a group

"In one of her riffs in her concert movie, “Jesus is Magic,” Sarah Silverman notes that groups are made fun of in inverse relation to how scared people are of them.

So, she explains, she makes extensive fun of Asian-Americans in her routines, because she thinks they won't mount any serious protests or do violence to her. A version of this standard is obviously at play when the media prints material offensive to Christians, but not to Muslims. "

Bill Clinton just wants to be loved... (whereEVER he might be)

This time in Qatar....

"Bill Clinton, conference-hopping in Qatar, condemned Jyllands-Posten(the cartoons).

“So now what are we going to do?” Clinton said. “Replace the anti-Semitic prejudice with anti-Islamic prejudice?”

Clinton’s evocation of anti-Semitism was particularly inapt, since Arab media regularly churn out floods of anti-Jewish filth, including TV series based on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. In the Muslim world, everything depends on whose sacred cow is being gored."

From NRO

Clinton is certainly consistent on one thing.... he will change his remarks to fit his audience ALWAYS...
"May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."

Anglicans Dump Israel Investments

"The Church of England is facing a backlash from Jewish leaders for voting to divest from companies whose products are used by the Israeli government in the occupied territories.

Adding to the Jewish community's distress over the vote is that it was backed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, who has not commented on the recent Palestinian election victory of Hamas, which is on record as calling for the Israel’s destruction."

Church of England.....In Support of Hamas?... Opposed to Israel's self-defense?

"At least one prominent Anglican, the outspoken former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey, is having none of it:

The February 6 divestment vote, which was backed by current Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, was "a most regrettable and one-sided statement," Lord Carey said, and one that "ignores the trauma of ordinary Jewish people" in Israel subjected to terrorist attacks."

2,000-Year-Old Judean Date Seed Growing Successfully

"A 2,000-year-old date seed planted last Tu B’Shvat has sprouted and is over a foot tall. Being grown at Kibbutz Ketura in the Arava, it is the oldest seed to ever produce a viable young sapling.

The Judean date seed was found, together with a large number of other seeds, during archaeological excavations carried out close to Massada near the southern end of the Dead Sea.

“It is a long road to our being able to eat the Judean date once again,” Solowey said, “but there is the possibility of restoring the date to the modern world.”
