Poor Design of Taum Sauk dam led to collapse

"AmerenUE's mountaintop Taum Sauk reservoir was poorly designed and constructed, so it was doomed to collapse when systems that measured water levels failed and the giant man-made lake overflowed, said a report from a consultant hired by the utility.

The dam, completed in 1963, wasn't even constructed to the best practices of the 1960s - more like the 1940s, the report found. The report states that Taum Sauk was the last dumped rock fill dam in the U.S. and, possibly, the world."

Iran ignores UN's demand to cooperate......Duh?

"The U.N. nuclear-watchdog agency said yesterday that Iran has ignored a U.N. Security Council deadline to stop enriching uranium and has failed to cooperate fully with nuclear inspectors.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) told the U.N. Security Council this was a "matter of concern."

A Matter of Concern.... Sounds like to me its a Matter of Laughter by the Mullahs against the "United" Nations. Ha, just look at this photo of Mahmoud, he looks like he's going to cooperate....doesn't he?

Ted Kennedy opposes Wind Energy (if it's in his backyard)

"A 130-turbine, 24-square-mile cluster of windmills off Cape Cod could be a model for the rest of the country, but Sen. Edward Kennedy plans to block it.

The wind farm would be about 8 miles from Kennedy's home in Hyannis Port, and he has long opposed it, the Boston Globe reported.

"The Democrats are going to kill the first big offshore wind farm in the United States because of their relationship with Ted Kennedy," said John Passacantando, executive director of Greenpeace USA."

"Know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. "President Bush and a group of senators yesterday reached general agreement on an immigration bill that includes a pathway to citizenship for many illegal aliens. But left out of the closed-door White House meeting were senators who oppose a path to citizenship.

The meeting even snubbed two men who had been considered allies of Mr. Bush on immigration -- Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican and chairman of the immigration subcommittee, and Sen. Jon Kyl, Arizona Republican."

Makes sense.......? Cornyn even supported Meiers for SC. Guess they're not interested in listening to or convincing critics...... LAZY.

Michael Rubin on Iran on NRO

"Lopez: What's something about the Iranian people we should all know?

Rubin: It sounds basic, but Iranians aren't Arabs. While Arabic is a Semitic language like Hebrew, Persian is Indo-European. There are so many Persian cognates: The Persian word for forest is jungle and the word for sugar cube is qand (like candy). Mother is madar, father is padar, and brother, baradar.

It is important to know and understand Iranian culture. Iranian poetry is rich, and Iranian cuisine the best in the world. Still, while appreciating Iranian culture is important to derive a more nuanced policy, it is also important to not lose perspective: It is true that 80 percent of Iranians don't support their government and are pro-Western.

But it's equally important to remember that how friendly and independent Iranians are doesn't matter; it's the guys with the guns who make the decision and who have for a quarter century isolated Iran."

Wood Bison return to Siberia

"After an absence of more than 5,000 years, the thunder of bison hooves will soon be heard once again in the vast tundra of northeastern Siberia, thanks to the persistence of wildlife conservationists in this remote corner of Russia. After nearly a decade of trying, biologists in the Russian Republic of Sakha have obtained 30 wood bison that they plan to release into the wild next year.

"Before they died out here thousands of years ago, the bison crossed over the Bering Straight to North America and settled there. In a way, it's like they're coming home," said Vasily Tikhonov, a biologist with Sakha's Ministry of Nature Protection."

President Bush declares milestone in Iraq

"President Bush said yesterday that the United States reached a "milestone toward our victory in Iraq" when Iraqi leaders agreed on a prime minister-designate, and he called the country's three top leaders to tell them they now "have responsibilities to defeat the terrorists."

Speaking to Marines in Twentynine Palms, Calif., Mr. Bush said he telephoned President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister-designate Jawad al-Maliki and parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani to tell them that "they have an awesome responsibility" to prove they can unite and govern their nation.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.

Northwest Missouri State marks 100 years of Service

"According to Mattie Dye’s book “Behind the Birshes: a History of Northwest Missouri State College,” Northwest Missouri lawmakers first considered establishing a teachers’ college in this corner of the state as early as 1838 — a year before the University of Missouri was founded in Columbia. It was another seven decades before they got their wish.

Northwest found its feet on March 25, 1905, when Gov. Joseph W. Folk signed a bill establishing the Fifth District Normal School of Missouri, a school that would specialize in training future teachers."

A barrier is broken in Iraq

They have a prime minister who might be willing to stand up the the forces of instability.

We shall see. Al-Maliki may not be a perfect choice, but he looks to be a stronger leader than al-Jaafari. Let's just see how much influence Iran welds over Iraq and how Islamist the government becomes.

Olmert calls Iran a "threat to western civilization"

"Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday urged the international community to work against the Iranian nuclear program, saying Teheran's ambitions threaten not only Israel but all of Western civilization.

Israel has long identified Iran as its biggest threat, and these concerns have grown amid repeated calls by Iran's hard-line president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, for Israel's destruction.
"The Iranian nuclear program should concern many countries, especially those with global responsibility,"

Sadly, it seems that the world does not wish to acknowledge this. The Bush administration seems to be dragging its feet. The UN is beyond worthless. The Iranian regime laughs at the perceived weakness. Has that terror supporting-exporting regime faced any consequences ever? No they receive petrol dollars just the same.

Iraqis becoming refugees in their own country

"Tens of thousands of Iraqis have abandoned their homes and moved into makeshift housing in the last few weeks because of death threats from organized Sunni and Shi'ite militias and gangs, the president of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society said yesterday.

"Some [militia] members come with leaflets and envelopes with blood-stained bullets and tell them to leave," Said Hakki said in a telephone interview from Baghdad. "These numbers are rising and rising at an alarming rate."

Bush administration has "no idea" how Iranian official entered country

"The Bush administration yesterday was at a loss to explain the rare presence in Washington of an Iranian government official who slipped into the United States under mysterious circumstances, apparently to attend a scholarly conference.

The State Department said that Mohammad Nahavandian, an economics and technology aide to Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, "is not here for meetings with U.S. government officials."

FIFA not a political organization, but condemns Israel anyway

"Israel is used to being singled out for unjust criticism and subjected to startling double standards by the United Nations, the European Union, much of the Western media and numerous academic bodies. But now FIFA — the supposedly nonpolitical organization that governs the world's most popular sport, soccer — is getting in on the act as well.

FIFA has condemned Israel for an air strike on an empty soccer field in the Gaza Strip that was used for training exercises by Islamic Jihad and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. This strike did not cause any injuries. But at the same time FIFA has refused to condemn a Palestinian rocket attack on an Israeli soccer field last week which did cause injuries."

It's like the Europeans expect the Palestinians to attack Israelis indiscriminately. Also seems like the Europeans REAL favorite sport is to disparage Jewish people, ie Israel.

"We don't have an agreed agenda -- breaking up our leadership has taken its toll," Mr. DeLay told a small group of reporters invited to his offices in the Cannon House Office Building."

Sadly, Delay became part of the problem. Recall when he said "we've done all that we can to cut fat out of the budget, there isn't anymore to cut out".

Now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NIV)
Tom Delay resigns, Republicans refuse to fight....

"Rep. Tom DeLay, the Texas Republican who stepped down as House majority leader last year, will abandon his re-election bid and resign his seat in coming months, sources on Capitol Hill say."

GOP wake up!!! Resigning in the face of refutable charges is NOT a winning strategy.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

If you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even "sinners" do that.

Time for the kiddies to get back to learning

I'm growing very tired of the "flag wars" at US High Schools. Flag burning/banning is growing tiresome. What exactly are the kids there for? "No child left behind" should be changed to "No protest left un-protested".......

Wizards begin the "EJ" era with win

"The Wizards acquired Eddie Johnson from FC Dallas back on Valentine’s Day. Saturday, in the Wizards’ Major League Soccer season-opener, Johnson provided physical evidence of why the acquisition was as sweet as a gift-wrapped box of chocolates.

Not only did Johnson score a goal in his Wizards debut, he appeared to put the Columbus defense on its heels with every touch of the ball and spearheaded a potent offense that overwhelmed the Crew 3-1 in front of 18,143 brand-new “EJ” fans."

Fox to crack down on his own "illegal aliens"

"The president, meeting with other North American leaders in Cancun last week, promised to track illegal aliens crossing his country's southern border, to return them to their home countries and to work for better security on the U.S.-Mexico border."

How xenophobic, how harsh.....
Support eroding for "Iraqi leader"

"Leaders of Iraq's ruling Shi'ite Alliance bloc called publicly for the first time yesterday for Ibrahim al-Jaafari to step down as prime minister to break weeks of deadlock over a national-unity government."

The "Tool" al-Jaafari needs to go.
